Memorials
In 1376 (1998) Hafez Studies Center proposed a National Hafez Day to honor his poetry and thoughts. October 12 (Mehr 20) is celebrated as Hafez Day and registered in the national calendar. Since then, every year Hafez Day is celebrated in Shiraz with different ceremonies. Well-known Hafez scholars of Iran and the world get together to present their views on Hafez. Every year the program has three parts, the opening ceremony, oral presentations and programs on the fringe.
The opening ceremony takes place at the tomb on the night of the 19th of Mehr and is attended by officials, well-known scholars and friends of Hafez. Oral presentations on a certain topic take place on 20 Mehr. Fringe programs consist of different exhibitions, theatre and music performances, publishing new books and putting flowers on the tomb.
